PAEDIATRIC NEUROSURGERY FELLOWSHIP

Applications are invited for a one-year Paediatric Neurosurgery Fellowship at BethanyKids of Kijabe Hospital (BKKH). BKKH is a specialized unit dedicated to the medical care of children with surgical disabilities. As a distinct unit within AIC Kijabe Hospital it includes a 65-bed inpatient unit, an outpatient facility, and a network of 14 mobile clinics spanning across Kenya. The hospital treats large numbers of children with tethered spinal cords, encephaloceles, brain tumours and the broad spectrum of paediatric neurosurgical disorders. BKKH is an accredited training site for the Department of Surgery, School of Medicine, University of Nairobi, Kenya.
BKKH is offering one-year fellowship at the Kijabe Hospital under the direction of Prof. Leland Albright, an internationally known paediatric neurosurgeon and the senior editor of the textbook, Principles and Practice of Paediatric Neurosurgery. Applicants must have completed an accredited neurosurgery residency and desire subspecialty training in paediatric neurosurgery. BBKH is a Christian organization and holders of the fellowship should be practicing Christians.
Key responsibilities:
– Asses children in the outpatient area and triage admissions;
– Perform daily ward rounds and assess patients preoperatively;
– Assist in the operating theatre and perform procedures with appropriate supervision;
– Keep computerized records of both outpatients and inpatients;
– Assist in the professional development of the BKKH neurosurgery residents;
– Be involved in research activities aimed at improving the care of children with neurosurgical disorders.
Required qualifications:
- University degree in Human Medicine from a recognized university
- Completion of an accredited neurosurgery residency
- Computer iteracy
